🏖️ Ocean 🌲 Forest ⛰️ Hill 🌲 Nature reserve 🏖️ HeadlandCape Schanck is situated on the southern part of the Mornington Peninsula, facing the waters of Bass Strait. There is no shopping center to speak of in Cape Schanck, with the nearby towns of Rosebud and Flinders serving the area. However, the Cape Schanck Resort & Golf Course, with its bar and restaurant, is considered by many to be the heart of the community. A 4-kilometer drive south from the resort takes visitors to the coastal feature that gave the town its name: Cape Schanck. On this rocky point is the Cape Schanck Lighthouse, built in 1859 of local limestone and featuring a rare stone spiral staircase. Guided tours of the lighthouse are offered daily, including access to the circular observation deck near the top for spectacular views. The lighthouse is surrounded by a preserve that includes a museum, the keeper's former quarters and associated buildings. A network of scenic walks begins at the lighthouse parking lot. A short loop offers views of the lighthouse and coastline from several designated vantage points, while a dramatic walk and steps allow visitors to descend from the top of the cliffs to the rocky beach below. Near the east end of the parking lot is another coastal viewpoint where the Bushrangers Bay Boardwalk begins, which hugs the top of rugged basalt cliffs, offering views of a rocky, unspoiled coastline. Cape Schanck offers visitors a glimpse of the area's maritime history, beautiful rocky coastal features, pristine beaches, scenic hiking trails with ocean views, and easy access to surrounding golf courses.
